First time I came across achiever and sustainer definition is from an audio book about personal success during the 1980s, it caught my ear while I listened to it. It is from an American author, most likely the book author’s own voice. If I correct it, it is Skills for Success by Adele Scheele. Why suddenly mention it?
As the world transit toward the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) industry 4.0, lot of new emerging technologies are introduced. We can see two types of reaction, one is proactive in adapting and attempt to be the first batch of pioneers to use it to shape the world for their favor, as the company. We also saw another batch who just passively see and react to the world. As such, achiever refers to success characteristics, same as well for sustainer, for another set of different characteristics and behavior associated with it.
The world needs both types of achievers and sustainers to work. In one context, sustainers may be much better than those who do bold moves too early to enter the market. As you know, when you enter the market too early, the market is not even educated and profitable to serve and needs it to grow bigger and more sizable to be worth serving.
Achievers do not wait, they make change, they are rainmakers, innovators and keep busy for the change project. In our life we will come across few at least in your life. Do not get me wrong, I do not mean enterprise must be filled with achievers. Sustainers and followers serve their purpose as well.
When we reach international labor day a couple of days from now. So the labor topic pops up. The world will undergo major transformation, no shift, you can not, based on current len and perspective try to understand for something is not here yet. But you can based on what is now available for projection into the future, what the world will be 5 years to 10 years from now.
If today we already have the long distance self-driving robotic and AI operated vehicle, you can imagine how it will transform the industry for what it can be when the cost reaches affordable and mass acceptance. Same goes for the robot chef in the backend of the restaurant, to cook and make orders. Same goes for the call center chatbot and voice assist virtual robot with AI to serve you over the phone and even with the face in the near future.
The beauty of the AI and robot workforce is to help human offloading things robots can do better than humans, and at the same time for humans to perform something robots can not perform. From the change and project initiative, where only humans can adapt, at least at the time being. Co-exist with AI and robots is for sure one of the key themes, and at the same time, we humans must get ourselves ready for the project economy.
