Apple WWDC 2020, or 2020 Apple Worldwide Developers Conference took place two days ago, a statement will transit toward ARM Based Mac. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, it became a virtual conference. The 18 announcement is being made but I think the most worth to note is not the rest of the product continuous update release that is coming, but this bold transition everyone is talking about in rumor for two years is finally announced, first ARM based Mac will release at the end of this year. Within two years time, it will transform, and allow Apple to use their Apple chip to power their Mac product line, after iphone, iPad product line.
Apple made the transition from Power PC processor to intel from 2005. Then it is Intel based machine since that day to power Apple professional product line that cover both working professional, workstation to high end productivity use case.
Immediate advantage for Apple is obviously its own chip, full control of its own product with this transition. Without 3rd party processor, the price should be bring down to make it more affordable for bigger market, where in the past it not really in consider, despite they are strong in iOS , iPad, iWatch product line, but Mac line in term of total turnover and volume is always in the shadow when compare with iOS and iPad. With this transition, we can imagine more products from iOS and iPad will direct port over to ArmMac, and this actually enhances their ecosystem and to make it even harder to shift away from existing customers, despite this few years iPhone sales continue to fall, and more and more people shift to use android phone as their smartphone device.
Since the year got one more Apple event to announce in September, we can imagine that the date for announcement for the new iphone and the rest of yet to announce news for the year.
We are not far from imagining Surface pro two-in-one product alike product feature pencil use on the Apple new Mac product line, like how it is now used on the iPad product line.
Despite the fact that we continue to see Microsoft Windows dominance the mass market due to it can run across all the different hardware vendor Intel based products, but better refine ARM Mac product line, how their potential is really worth to see.
It gives a lot of people to consider whether to hold for the current decision and wait for the year end ARM Mac product to exist to make the decision.
