Chinese New Year are celebrated by millions of people worldwide. Also known as Lunar New Year or Spring festival, Chinese New Year marks the beginning of a new year according to the traditional Chinese lunar calendar and regarded as one of the most important festival in China and a few other countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Mongolia.
This year, Chinese New Year falls on Tuesday, January 22, 2023. As the Chinese New Year is approaching, we see Chinese are getting busy with the preparation for the celebration, from buying new clothes, food and decorations, both via online shopping and physical stores. Interestingly, as this year is known as the year of rabbit, most of the items will be based on this theme; ie rabbit decoration, rabbit shaped dishes and more. Definitely, there are various significant events and activities during the celebration of Chinese New year such as decorating the house with red lanterns, red paper cuttings and new year painting, offerings sacrifice to ancestors, enjoying togetherness in the New years eve’s dinner reunion, giving out red envelopes (lucky money) to children, setting off firecrackers and fireworks as well as giving each other new year greetings.
The year 2022 had passed with multiple events, both good and bad. From war, recession, nature disaster to outbreak of various diseases and threats, the events had taught us to always be grateful to every blessing we have, even for little chance we have to spend time with our beloved one.
