Philippines Independence Day or Araw ng Kasarinlan is celebrated annually on June 12. Also called Araw ng Kalayaan, the celebration of this meaningful day includes a nationwide parade participated in by government officials, employees, and students, as well as a police and military parade in Manila led by the country’s incumbent president which is followed by a speech and a 21-gun salute.
Historically, Philippines took years to gain her independence, approximately 300 hundred years. While it seem impossible, the National Heroes, one after another had rise with high spirit, to continuously fight to achieve this day, to declare Philippines as an independent country. Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Aguinaldo, Juan Luna, Sultan Dipatuan Kudarat and many more, their love and sacrifice should always be reminded as well as remembered by the people today to understand the value of Philippines Independence Day.
In this world, having the freedom to walk on our own land without fear and oppression is a blessing. Hence, let’s celebrate this blessed day, Independence Day, with full patriotism and the promise to protect it.
