The celebration of National heroes day in the Philippines is held every last Monday in the month of August ,a day that is chosen as it marked the rise of the Cry of Pugad Lawin in 1896, the beginning of the Philippine revolution against the Spanish colonisers.
Generally, National heroes day in the Philippines commemorates both known and unknown national heroes but specifically, these national heroes are recommended and declared as one based on certain criteria /contribution by a National Heroes Committee was set up in 1995. Among them are; Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Aguinaldo, Apolinario Mabini and Sultan Dipatuan Kudarat.
While the celebration is not as big as the independence day, the people in the Philippines commonly honour the day with parade, laying wreath at the shrines and small fireworks. National heroes day in the Philippines celebration is significant to the Filipino. It is one of the celebration that bring awareness to the people to appreciate the effort of the people before us who make sacrifices for the sake of their future generation, to have comfort life as an independent individual.
