Eid al-Fitr is one the biggest celebration in the Islamic calendar. It is a mandatory celebration for muslims for it means to show gratitude to Allah for blessing them with Islam as a religion and to commemorate their victory or success in fulfilling one of the pillar of Islam, fasting for the whole month of Ramadhan as well as refraining themselves from every action that is forbidden during Ramadhan.
There are many significant activities during the celebration of Eid-al Fitr. Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr with Takbir (chanting Allahuakbar which means Allah is the greatest) in the night before Eid al-Fitr and in the first day of Shawwal. In the morning of the first day of Shawwal, Muslims are encouraged to eat before the Eid al-Fitr prayer and wear new or decent attire. They are also encouraged to visit their relatives and friend and wishes everyone they met along the way with “May Allah accept (good deeds) from us and from you”.
With many restrictions have been lifted since the declaration of Covid-19 as an endemic, it is believable that traveling and visiting are possible during this coming Eid al-Fitr celebration. While everyone are excited in bringing back the celebration to way it had always been, it does not hurt to remind ourselves to always stay alert in keeping everyone safe from Covid-19 and its variants.
