The European Smart Metering Awards 2013 have been set up in association with the Smart Metering UK & European Summit to recognise excellence in Smart Metering and will acknowledge those that are playing a defining role in moving the industry forwards. The awards will coincide with three conferences taking part over two days (24th and 25th of January 2013.) The event will be covering all the latest developments in UK & European Smart Metering, Smart Grids, Smart Homes, the future of Smart Utilities and Cyber Security.
Titania have been shortlisted for the cyber security award, a new category that has been added this year. The Smart Metering & Grids Cyber Security Summit has also been introduced to the conference agenda. The Cyber Security focus has been added in response to it becoming one of smart metering’s most pressing issues. This is partly because the transition to the Smart Grid is a move away from a linear, on-way system towards a digitalized ‘system of systems’. The implementation of such an infrastructure upgrade is highly complicated. By moving away from the traditional power grid and making it decentralized and digital, the new Grid will be exposed to a wealth of new cyber security threats. Computing and communication networks will be central to the performance and availability of the power infrastructure and therefore must be protected along with the private Grid related data.
Titania’s flagship cyber security Nipper Studio is already used extensively by utilities companies and energy providers in the U.S as well as the Department of Energy. Titania CEO and creator of Nipper Studio, Ian Whiting said:
‘We are very excited to have been shortlisted for this award. We understand that effective cyber security is essential to ensuring that the provision of energy is efficient, cost effective and reliable. Our tools can help organisations to achieve this, which is why our solutions have been such a great success in the U.S. We hope that these awards will help us emulate this success in the smart metering & grid industry in the UK and Europe.
