Resistive touch screen
A resistive touch screen has two layers, the first layer is made of flexible plastic with thin film conductive material while the second layer, usually made of glass or hard plastic with conductive material coating. These two layers are separated by spacers that are placed at regular interval. Therefore, when the screen is touched, the two conductive layers will be in contact, thus resistance at the point of contact is measured which give accurate measurement of the touch position.
Capacitive touch screen
A capacitive touch screen acts as a capacitor and is composed of two spaced layers of glass which are coated with conductive material. A light touch on the screen will cause changes on the capacitance thus uses the information to estimate the touch position.
Touch-screen interface is proven as a very beneficial NUI application as it is easy to use and clean as well as does not require additional peripherals such as mouse and keyboard. It also has negative points such as being expensive and easily damaged for it is made from fragile materials.
