Trend toward Endpoint Protection Platforms (EPP) Market
Endpoint Protection Market evolving to Endpoint Protection Platforms (EPP) Market
From the recent Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms 2017, we notice that EPP market listing criteria rise again and now required vendor to demonstrate even more capability beyond their previous core technology offering.
The current standard for consideration include lot of previously required separate purchase functionality, now mostly in the form of bundled to include anti-malware, personal firewall, port and device control, vulnerability assessment, application control and application sandboxing, enterprise mobility management (EMM), memory protection , endpoint detection and response (EDR) technology, data protection such as full disk and file encryption, and endpoint data loss prevention (DLP).
Off course, no all product in the market will be prefect in all area, but overall long term toward bundled package where favour big player who already had those functionality or acquired them from other to form their value bundled package.
With the recent IoT botnet and ransomware massive incident, we will expect it will be address in EPP vendor offering in the short term as well.
These products and features are typically centrally managed and ideally integrated by shared policies. For sure over the mid and long term, DLP, EMM and vulnerability assessment will be subsumed by the EPP market, just as the personal firewall, host intrusion prevention, device control and anti-spyware markets have been subsumed by the EPP market.
EPP suites are a logical place for the convergence of these functions. Organizations continue the trend of using a single vendor for several EPP functions, or are actively consolidating products. In particular, mobile data protection remains the leading complement to EPP, and purchasing decisions for the two products are increasingly made together.
For most organizations, selecting a mobile data protection system from their incumbent EPP vendors will meet their requirements. Application control and the features of vulnerability analysis are also rapidly integrating into EPP suites. Currently, EMM is largely a separate purchase for more demanding large enterprise buyers; however, small and midsize businesses (SMBs) are likely to be satisfied with their EPP vendor’s EMM capabilities.
For high level summary, player listed in Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms 2017:
It good to know that most of E-SPIN active supplier vendor continue leading in the EPP market, look forward for incorporating more EPP technology into the value bundled package and enabling us to serve the market we support along those years and coming.
